The site
The property is a mixed commercial and residential site on the edge of the town centre, close to the shops and services of Churchfield Road and a short walk from Acton Central station. It is not listed and is not in a conservation area. Most surrounding buildings are terraced.
The challenge
The owners wanted better security for the garage. The challenge was to do this with a boundary treatment that would not harm the character of the street or the safety and amenity of neighbours and passers-by.
What was submitted
- Design and Access StatementDescribed a 1.8m-high triple-point palisade fence across the frontage to secure the garage. It explained that the design had been considered so as not to harm the character of the street.
- Plans and elevationsThe submission included location and block plans, pre-existing and existing floor plans, a front elevation and a section. The elevation shows 1.8m-high fence runs either side of the garage frontage.
Outcome
The London Borough of Ealing approved the installation of a fence and gates to the front elevation, following removal of the existing fence, on 8 June 2023.
