Front boundary fence and gates to a mixed-use property

Churchfield Road, Acton · London Borough of Ealing

Planning permission was sought for a fence and gates on the front boundary of a mixed-use property on a busy local high street, to secure a garage. We prepared the Design and Access Statement and the supporting drawings.

The site

The property is a mixed commercial and residential site on the edge of the town centre, close to the shops and services of Churchfield Road and a short walk from Acton Central station. It is not listed and is not in a conservation area. Most surrounding buildings are terraced.

The challenge

The owners wanted better security for the garage. The challenge was to do this with a boundary treatment that would not harm the character of the street or the safety and amenity of neighbours and passers-by.

What was submitted

  1. Design and Access StatementDescribed a 1.8m-high triple-point palisade fence across the frontage to secure the garage. It explained that the design had been considered so as not to harm the character of the street.
  2. Plans and elevationsThe submission included location and block plans, pre-existing and existing floor plans, a front elevation and a section. The elevation shows 1.8m-high fence runs either side of the garage frontage.

Outcome

The London Borough of Ealing approved the installation of a fence and gates to the front elevation, following removal of the existing fence, on 8 June 2023.

Images and findings are taken from the documents submitted with the planning application. The full application is available on the council's planning register.
